 Shaaron
Hancock Schuemaker has been performing for most of her life. Her first
stage experience happened at the age of three, where she sang at a talent
show aboard the Queen Elizabeth, en route to England. After winning
that talent show, there was no stopping her! Shaaron spent the rest
of her early childhood taking music lessons, learning accordion, piano
flute, violin, drums and guitar, plus participating in every talent
show available.
Shaaron's first professional all girl band, The Spiders Web, enjoyed
several worldwide tours with the USO as well as nightclubs and military
dance clubs. Her early concert credits include Willy Nelson ZZ Top,
Quicksilver Messenger Service, Chi Coltrane, Nazz, Raspberries, Guess
Who, Youngbloods, Three Dog Night and many others.
In 1972 Shaaron learned bass guitar by default. During a stint with
the "Dora Hall" show, the bass player was unable to play so
Shaaron filled the spot. Bass was a natural for her and she became one
of San Diego's first female bass players.
Shaaron joined up with Fred Thompson & the GNP in 1975 and played
for two years with him at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel, until her
untimely departure due to a horseback riding accident that left her
with a broken arm.
In the years following, Shaaron formed "Lady Luck" and did
the Vegas circuit, cruise ships and extensive lounge work. The band
evolved into "Mss D'Meanor" and as a hard rock band toured
Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and the continental USS.
After several years on the road, Shaaron settled to a domestic life
that included becoming a single foster parent. She has fostered over
200 foster daughters and adopted three sisters. Parenting played the
major role during this time. Shaaron earned an AA degree in Child Development
(which has come in very handy as a band leader), and then went on to
a BA in Social Work (also very handy in dealing with musicians).
In 1992 Shaaron persuaded Padre baseball
player Tim Flannery to join a bar band she was in. Tim eventually formed
his own band, taking Shaaron with him. Shaaron worked with the Tim Flannery
Band until 1999. During this time she recorded "Looking Back"
and "Secret World" with Tim and was on the bill with several
artists including Judy Collins, Rugburns, Willy Nelson, Jimmy Buffett
(on this show, Jimmy joined the band and sang with Shaaron, on the same
mike!!), George Thoroughgood, Meryl Haggard and many others.
Following the Tim Flannery experience, Shaaron formed and led Koko Loco,
a Jimmy Buffett tribute show. Koko Loco has played with the Beach Boys,
Jan and Dean, Dick Dale, Stevie Nicks, Paul Revere and the Raiders,
The Platters, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Jimmy Buffett and
the coral Reefer Band, the Safaries, Jan & Dean, Denny land and
many, many others. Koko Loco also augmented their show by adding members
of the Coral Reefers (Tina Gullickson, Amy Lee, TC, Fingers Taylor,
Robert Greenish, Mr. Utley, Doyle Grisham, and don't forget the beautiful
dancers.
Recently Shaaron has been enjoying doing studio work as both a vocalist
and bassist, and has been the guest artist on several CD's. "Walkin'
the Streets" from the Paul Bolton Project has been featured in
a movie and work that she had done with the Joel Raffeal Band has received
airplay.
Legendary studio bassist, Carol Kay, has called Shaaron "an amazing
talent".
Ask Shaaron what she thinks about her 40 year career and she will tell
you: I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT; I NEVER HAD TO WORK A REAL JOB!!"
